20th December 2007 Developing the Future
The Suffolk Spartans will be involved with promotion of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games. This day is a National promotion with
events throughout the country and within Babergh this will be at the Hadleigh Leisure Centre between 10am and 4pm. A number of London 2012 sports will be available for people to come, watch and try in an effort to promote the sports and people in the region to become more active. We need to ensure that everyone who could compete in these games in London is within sporting programs to ensure that they have every chance of being asked to represent the country at this event.

New Partnerships

The Suffolk Spartans joined forces with British Blind Sport who were hosting a visual impairment day at Bury St Edmunds. 10 youngsters attended the day and competed in four different sports of which Powerlifting was one. All those managed to prove they were much stronger than they thought and a good day was had by all.

Visit to the seaside
Optua held its third showcase day and Suffolk Spartans were pleased to be a part of this. More than 30 people tried Powerlifitng during the course of the day at Waveney Leisure Centre in Lowestoft. Following this day we have now developed contacts with British Blind Sport and hope to link up for a visual impairment day in the future. A fun day was had by one and all and we are looking forward to the next showcase day which will be in 2008.
2nd June 2007
3 out of 3
Three members of the Suffolk Spartans competed in their first National Disabled Powerlifting competition today and all three came away with first place. This is recognition for the hard work and dedication that these and all members of the club have put in over the few months this club has been running.
Chris lifted 80kg, Nathaniel 70kg and Polly 52.5kg.
While all were pleased with the progress made it has simply given all three the determination to improve and realise their full potential. It was an especially difficult achievement as Nathaniel was lifting in the Suffolk Show on the 30th May and Chris had been lifting on 30th and 31st
Polly said ‘this has been a really great experience, especially as I have joined the club so recently but I know I can lift more than I did and just want to prove that’
In addition to the first place Nathaniel also received the best junior trophy which just goes to show how much this small club has achieved in such a short space of time. All three were back at the club the following Friday and after a pose for the camera back to the serious work of training. All eyes are now on how far these athletes can go in the future.
30th and 31st May 2007
A Royal visit at the Suffolk Show Suffolk Spartans joined up with Optua and held a stand at the Suffolk Show within the Sportzone arena. Within this arena a number of sports were demonstrated in a central arena and members of the public were encouraged by all to join in and try something new while around the arena there were various
sports orientated stands operating of which Suffolk Spartans was one.
The stand included a bench press which people were able to have a go at. The idea was to promote both powerlifting and the inclusion of disabled people within sporting activities.
While the weather was a bit grey on Wednesday we had a Royal visit from HRH Prince Edward who got to see some bench pressing from both Chris and Nathaniel regular members of the Suffolk Spartans. On Thursday the sun came out and the bench was moved out of the tent and into the sunshine where many more came and had a go. Young and old alike were able to try this sport under the supervision of the club's coaches Daniel and Louise with help from Chris and Nathaniel along with members of Optua who were very good at encouraging passers by on to the bench and keep us busy. A fun couple of days was had by all involved.
