Polly Vaughan
A busy mother Polly did try Powerlfiting several years ago but when there was an Optua open day at Bury St Edmunds in April 2007 she came
along specifically to see if she could get back into the sport.
As Polly suffers from spina bifida she has little control over her legs and these are strapped down during most of her lifting. Polly has tremendous strength in her arms and while she is finding improved strength and general fitness from being a member of Suffolk Spartans she has also found that this is a great social activity as well.
'everyone here is really easy to get along with and we all have a laugh' which is a good thing really as Polly travels from Great Yarmouth each week to meet with the club.
In addition to Powerlifting, Polly is also keen on Kayaking and athletics. While at school Polly was able to compete in
Swimming and Athletics taking both to a National Level, she also competed in shot putting during this time and so is very much the all round athlete.
Polly competed in her first competition in June and while all didn't go as well as expected she was still able to come away with first place, a great acheievment for someone who has been in the club such a short space of time.
Polly now has high aspirations and would like to represent Great Britain at the 2012 olympic games and vows to work hard to achieve this.
