James was looking for the chance to take part in Powerlifting and found the Spartans online in the summer of 2012 and decided to try his hand at the sport. James spends time at college and enjoys football/rugby as well as film making and playing the guitar. He is a regular at busking nights and local band sessions and prefers rock music taking inspiration from bands like foo fighters and green day. James has travelled to support other members of the club at competitions which has shown a real commitment and gave him a real sense of competition ahead of competing himself.
James took his first competition in October 2013 at the East Midlands Bench Press where he finished with a lift of 77.5kg and took 1st place and becoming the under 18 East Midlands Champion. His second competition was in July of 2014 at the Spartans Bench Press Championships where he managed to increase his bench press to 82.5kg and this has been all the more outstanding as during this time James has also managed to lose 17kg of bodyweight which is a phenemonal achievement. At the East Midlands Bench Press Championships in October James was able to open on his previous personal best lift of 82.5kg and after 3 good lifts finished on 90kg, he took 4th place in this open competition.
