Rob is a lively and outspoken member of the Spartans joining in 2011 and after a difficult start combining both Powerlifting and Basketball he is now able to manage to fully commit to both Spartans and is also a regular player at Bury Bombers Wheelchair Basketball Club which is fantastic for both clubs.
Rob took his progress with Powerlifting to the competitive stage in January 2013 with a wintry trip to Folkestone. At this competition Rob had a nervous start but finished with 90kg and not only secured himself the title of UK Champion 2013 but also managed to set a new British Record for the class. In the summer of 2013 Rob took part in the British Championships at Stoke Mandeville and increased his personal best to 105kg an increase of 15kg in just 5 months and truly impressive. In November he had been unwell just prior to the competition and as a result failed to secure a lift which was disappointing but he returned in February 2014 to Folkestone and having recently had twin boys secured a lift of 108kg.
With the usual early year Folkestone competition cancelled in 2015 Rob took part in a help for heroes competition in April instead. After a slight struggle adjusting to the platform bar he came away with a final lift of 105kg and time to say normal service resumed after a few difficulties with health and training. The comps cam quickly with the BWL National Championships held in Coventry in June and Rob managed to increase his lift to 110kg. Following on from this was the Stockport Competition where another increase put Rob’s PB to 115kg and a steady year of improvement. Just two weeks later the BWAD competition at Stoke Mandeville and in front of IPC referees Rob easily managed 110kg but was unlucky to miss the 116kg due to technical fails.
